Declutter Your Life, Find Your Peace: A Refreshing Take on Simplicity

by Michelle Newman

There’s something magical about the urge to declutter, and it certainly doesn’t need to be spring to do a deep cleanse. Whether it’s a quiet Sunday or a midweek spark of inspiration, when the urge to simplify strikes, we need to run with it. And honestly, it feels amazing.

Many of us are leaning into the freedom of letting go of items, expectations, and even outdated mindsets. Whether you’re clearing out a closet or reevaluating what’s taking up emotional space, the question becomes: Does this add peace, joy, love, or rest to my life? If not, it’s time to release it.

Some days, it’s one drawer. Other times, it’s the whole house. And that’s the beauty of it—there are no rules. You get to choose your pace. There are moments when clearing mental clutter comes first, and others when rearranging a room opens space in your mind. Don’t be surprised if a box of old photos takes hours while a whole wardrobe takes minutes. Every item holds a story—and sometimes, it’s okay to close the book.

When moving toward more intentional living, applying a filter that fits your life helps. One simple filter? Even if something makes your heart sing, consider whether it also serves a purpose or has a designated place to live.

In a world of surplus, choosing less can be a radical act of self-care. Let this be our reminder: we don’t need more to feel full. Sometimes, clarity comes when we simply clear the space.
